2011 Painting Sold. 2012 Starting Soon.

Hi Everyone,

Well, I know I am a little late getting started with the 2012 One Year Painting. January and February has been a bit of a blur but I will be starting this years painting in the next couple of days.

Also, the 2011 painting has been sold. After watching the painting grow for the last year, it is a bit strange to see it go. That’s OK though. I would much rather see it go to a good home than hang around here any longer.

For those of you looking for your own copy, prints are available here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Well, the 2011 One Year Painting is finally complete. On one hand I am a bit relieved. This painting has been haunting my studio for a year. It has went through a move and all the stresses that go along with that.

On the other hand, I am a bit sad. This thing has been staring at me for so long that it is kind of like saying goodbye. I know, that sounds pretty silly. It is just a painting after all. However, there are 8760 hours in a year and that is 8760 hours that we have been rubbing elbows.

Anyway, I plan on writing a bit of a follow up to this whole project after I have had some time to process the whole thing and make some sense out of it. I will post that in the coming weeks.

Until then, there are the pictures above to peruse. I hope you enjoy the painting and a glimpse into the progression a painting goes through from start to finish.

Now what? Well, a 2012 One Year Painting of course.

Yep, I am going to do this again. The One Year Painting 2012 has already begun.

It is Christmas Eve and everyone is preparing for Christmas and I am in the room with the glass doors shut and the space heater is set to high and a knit winter cap pulled over my ears and it is dark and it is late and the colors remind me of the lights on the houses on the street and I am sure there are many kids lying in their beds staring at the ceiling praying for morning to come quicker but it doesn’t and I clean the brush and sit back feel the warm air blow across my face and tipping my head back I know that it is just another wonderful night to be here.

Boy, two updates in two weeks. It must be crunch time.

When I began this project I had not intended on feeling like I need to get this into a “finished” state before the deadline. I figured I would just paint until the clock ran out on December 31, 2011. However, the closer I get to that date the more pressing it seems to get that it needs to be all tied together. I suppose it is really because my whole life as a painter has always been about stopping a painting when the painting is complete. Not stopping a painting because of some other circumstance. In this case, the other circumstance being time.

Well, eleven days and counting and I am still learning something about this process and painting and in the end that is the ultimate goal.

Boy, we are really in the home stretch here. Looking at it, I realize that I need to buckle down and put some paint to the canvas. I know that the idea of this experiment is to follow the progression over the year and I would just stop when the year was over but it should at least have the air of a finished painting shouldn’t it?

I think so.

All red, all the time.

The only color added tonight was red. I imagine there is a poem somewhere in there.

The poem would be something about how in red we find all the things in our lives that trigger change and end up amounting to something in us and we come out the other end in an evolved state and in red we see through a tinted lens where the world is dimmed and I am reminded of the darkroom bulb and the hours over the chemicals and the images gracefully appeared in their bath and in that red light everything was beautiful.

Let’s see here… where to begin? It has been so long since the last update, maybe I should introduce myself again.

My name is Keemo and I paint.

Sounds a bit the beginning of a 12 step painters program. Anyway, after the last update I was positive that enough time would open up in the workday to get more updates on this. However, it didn’t really work out that way.

There just seems to be a constant flow of pieces going off the easel and all the while this big guy was leaned against the wall, just waiting for it’s turn. I am pretty sure that I even heard it whisper to me, “hey, psst… I’m over here…”

Anyway, there are 2 months left on this painting. I’m hoping to finish up the painting strong in the final months.

Holy Crab Cheese Rangoons, Man! There has been an update.

I know that this has been a long time coming. Three months to be exact. Life took a turn that was a lot bumpier and twisted and detoured than I could have imagined.

Well, things should be setting back down a bit and getting back to normal. Heck, I even got the studio cleaned out and organized enough that I could find the tripod and take a picture. Granted, the quality is not the greatest but I will get my lights back out and the next one will be a bit better.

Baby steps.

Anyway, it is good to be back and thanks for sticking with me during these past few months.

Let’s get back to painting and looking forward to more updates.
